Episode 333: Who Are You Really? Featuring Vic

Who are you when no one's watching? And more importantly — are you comfortable with the answer? In this episode of What's A Good Guy?, we're joined by the multi-hyphenate himself — Vic: fashion designer, stylist, basketball referee, teacher of life, dean, devoted partner, and part of the powerhouse brand Tier NYC. But today, we're not talking titles — we're talking identity. We explore questions like: • When do you truly know who you are? • What shapes your style, character, and personality? • Can you be proud of your reflection without the resume? From growth and self-awareness to how support shows up (or doesn't) in our relationships, this conversation challenges everything you thought you knew about becoming "you." 🔥 Subtopics We Dive Into: • Growth vs. Optics: Are you actually evolving or just performing? • Real Support: Do you know how to give it, and are you ready to receive it? • Navigating Identity in a world full of roles, labels, and pressure This episode is honest, layered, and long overdue. I Don't Know I Don't Really Shit You Don't Gotta Have One Yeah I Don't Have To I Don't Want To Force It Yeah Yeah You Don't Gotta Have One Shoot Maybe My Thorn Is Having To Use All My PTO At The End I Think I'm Even More Strategic With How You Spread It Out Yeah How I Spread It Out Cause I Kinda Feel Forced

[00:07:19] Do You Accumulate Them As The Year Go On So Like Most Jobs Every 8 Hours You Work You Get 1 Hour PTO Nah Nah It Just They Give You Like A Set Amount Okay Okay And Use It Accordingly Got You But You Know I've Been Blessed I Haven't Been Sick I Haven't Had To Call Out For Real So That's How I See It Same With Me I Don't Have I Don't Have A Thorn This Week Either Pretty Good Week You Sure? Oh Yeah How Could I Forget Tyrese Halliburton Has A Chance Bro

[00:07:49] Oh My Gosh Bro So So By The Time I Hear This He Could Either Be A Champion Which Yo I'ma Have That's Gonna Be My Thorn For The Rest Of The Month If This Nigga Win A Ring Can't Stand The Paces But It Is What It Is It Is Basketball So That's Tomorrow Right? Game 2? Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Game 7 My Roads For The Week I Would Say It's I Went To Niko Brim And Kai Cash's Brooklyn Show On The ATM Tour The Last Stop Of Their Show And That Was Really Good To See My Guys Man

[00:08:19] The Progression Of Their Careers Is Insane Bro Just Seeing Them Seeing Them Back There With The Whole Generation Well Generation Now Rhapsody Back There Like It's Just Seeing Where They Come From And Where They At Now It Was Good To See And Be There In Person To See It So I'm Really Happy I Got A Chance To And My Bud What I'm Looking Forward To The Good Weather I Think We Got Through This Rain This London Period Of Time Now We Was Dilling With Waking Up Gloomy Even Though Niggas Don't Like The Heat Like I Love It

[00:08:49] That 100 Degree Shit Is A Little OD But I'd Rather That Than Freezing Cold Yeah Over Anything So Bring On The Heat Baby Uh Rosebud Thorn Rose Live To See Another Week Um Bud I Look Forward To Getting My Call Back I Feel Naked Without My Oh It's Uh It's In The Shop It's The First Time That's In The Shop You Can Tell A Girl Like Yeah

[00:09:19] If I Call In The Shop Yeah I Was Like Uh I'm Not Make You Feel Broke I'm Not Planted Nothing Until I Get Actually I'm Supposed To Get It Back On The Fourth So From Now To The Fourth I'm Was It A Lot Of Damage Or I Can't Talk About That Kojo It's Also One Of Those Things That Is Is Truthful But Sounds Like A Lie Yeah Yeah So Now That I You Know When Can I See You

[00:09:50] You Know You Know What's Crazy You Know What's Crazy You Know What's Crazy I Looked Up Uber Prices The Other Day Don't Do That Just Hit The Button Bro Don't Look At The Prices It's $77 Bro It's Insane Bro To Stay In The Same Burrow That Shit Used To Be Convenient And Now It's Literally Like A Luxury I See Why I Be People Be Using The Telegram Yeah Thing For Wait Niggas Still Do That I Haven't Checked In I Used To I Used To I Used To Call Home Girl Like Yo I Need That You Know Hold On Give Me Like 10 Minutes

[00:10:19] Telegram I Never Heard Of That It Was A Scam Like A Yeah Yeah I Heard It's It's An App For The People Yeah You Know But I Had To Miss A Couple Days Of Work So Hope We Got The Rest Though Yeah Not Without No Car Couldn't Really Move Around Like That I Feel Naked And I'm Definitely Not Getting On Public Transit So You Gonna Just Have To Niggas Gotta Come Scoop You

[00:10:51] Facts I'm About To Run All Those Favors For Every Time I Pick Somebody Up Drop Them Home Yeah That's What You Gotta Do Yeah Yo Come Get Me Come Get Me If You Want Me Come Outside Come Get Me Yeah Facts Oh Today Today Is My Man's Deshawn Son's Birthday So That's My Roast For This Week Go To Go To A Nice Barbecue Get Some Good Food Yeah I Think The Anti-Glizzy Phase Is Over So Enjoy Get Your Hot Dogs Get Your Hot Dogs Get Your Hot Dogs Man Yeah And It's Prime Month So I'm Gonna Have To

[00:11:21] See How You Take It Too Far I'm Gonna Have Two Of The Choices Yo Double Head Yo That's Crazy There You Go He's Active Oh But Yeah Nah Vic Let's Get Into This Yeah Let's Get Into This Damn Okay Who Are You Really Who Are You Really Right I Feel Like There's Main There's Three Main Components Might Be More Y'all Could Add More If It Comes Up Style Character Personality

[00:11:51] Okay It's Like Let's See Like How About We Do Like A Game Sort Of Right Okay You We Describe Each Other Style Okay With Those Components Right Because You Could Describe Yourself But Like How Someone It's Kind Of Cool Like Looking Outside Of Yourself You Know What I Mean I'll Start With LaShawn What's His Style He's Matchy Matchy

[00:12:20] When That Was Matchy Matchy Yo Let Me Tell You LA That Was First When You Put On A Fit When You Put On A Fit When You Put On A Fit The Nigga Is Going To Make Sure His Shirt And Sneakers Definitely Match I'm Like I know Yo I remember I put a fit on one day And LA Was Like Why Don't You Wear Your Your Bread 11s I Had A D-Way Jersey On Yeah And I'm Like Nigga Don't Put On These All White Uptowns Because For Me I Like The Color A Little Different Color Pop And Obviously You Know In The Summer I Like My Uptowns With All My Feet

[00:12:50] I Know LA If LA Would Have Put On The Same Fit He Would Have Threw On It Was Like The Red And Black Kicks He's Mr. Matchy Matchy Matchy Matchy So I Know Him For That For Sure If Y'all Saw His Fit At Burgers And Bottles Same Protocol Red Prada Shirt Black Pads What Was It Fire Red Fives Fours Fours Fours Go Crazy Red Frames Oh Yeah That's The Other Thing His Glasses He Got So Many Nah He Got Like Multi Glasses Yeah All Hot You See Him Now All Black Matchy Matchy Black Durag Black Frames

[00:13:19] Black Shirt His Character Yeah I Feel Like We Did A Little Bit Of This Before Too On A Corny Episode 2 We Described Each Other In The Room LA Has He's A Very High Character Man Appreciate You Yes Of Course He's Somebody That's Very He's A Reliable And Another Character Trait Of His Is That He's Dependable And Reliable Is The Same Thing To Me So He's Dependable And Reliable

[00:13:49] And He Is A Good Listener I Would Say That Like When I Call Him And I Talk To Him I Know He'll Listen To Me Ladies See I Know He Loved Me He Loved Me Differently Though Right So I Would Those Are Some Things That I Would Lead With When I Talk About His Character As A Person His Personality That's See That's Tricky Right The First Version Of LA I Knew Like His Personality Was Not Very Welcoming

[00:14:18] At First Cause If He Don't Know You If He Don't Fuck With You Which Is Why I Know I'm A Good Person Cause That Nigger Loved Me Now Right So I Feel Like His Personality Is Very What He Protect Protective Of Him Of Himself And And I Think He's Protective Of Everybody Around Him Too And That's Like The Main Thing So He'll Let You Win If If He Trusts You If He Thinks You You're Not Gonna Like Come And Mess Up The Feng Shui Or The Way Things Are Going Yeah Yeah

[00:14:47] That's Why He Invited Me Right Yeah Nah For Sure That's What He Leads With He Leads With That I Think That's An Important Personality Trait So You Let Niggas Know Like You Ain't With Nonsense Yeah I Felt That Too Yeah Yeah Yeah I Would Say That That's And I Think In Conjunction With What I Said About His Character That Would Be That Would Be Something Who He Is Really To Me Plus More He Funny Yeah Joe I'll Go With Joe Joe Is

[00:15:17] Style Joe Is New York Through And Through Like Joe Shit Me Not Even Like Nick Swaz But Like I'm A New York Nigger You Could Tell Oh You From New York You Can Identify And We Ain't Talking About Like Timbs Or What Yeah You Can Just I Haven't Had A New Pair of Timbs In Years Either Joe Has If You Look Back And Joe Don't Archive Much On His Instagram So If You Go Through The Bottom And Up You'll See Every Stage Of New York Fashion Mmhmm

[00:15:47] Through It Through Joe So So I'll Say Joe Embodies New York A New York Style Whether It's The Yankee Hat Or The Accessories That We Wear I Got A G-Shock On Right Now I Got A G-Shock On Right Now Personality Wise Joe Is Electric Oh Shit I Ain't Never Hear That Before Joe Is Electric Joe Joe Joe Joe Has A

[00:16:17] A Gravitating Pull Joe Is The Center The Center Of The Of The Of The Universe So You Know How People May Get It Misconstrued Of Oh He's Arrogant Or Whatever Nah It's Just This Energy That Like If You Not In A Good Space You'll Notice Like Oh Everybody's Gravitating To Him Or He'll Gravitate To Other People To Make Sure Everybody's In A At Least Okay In The Setting Yeah Yeah That's The Cancer In A That's The Cancer In A Yeah Yeah So So You Got That

[00:16:46] And Um What Was The Last One Oh Character Joe Is Solid In The Sense Of Like He'll Do Right He'll Prioritize Doing Right By You Even If He Get The Short End Of The Stick He Still Wants It To Be Known That He's Solid Like When The Word Spreads About Joe He Don't Want No Smut On His Name So Even If You Doing Some

[00:17:15] Some Shit That He Not Okay With He Gon' Prioritize How He Looks And That's The Same I'm The Same Way So That's Why I Relate To That Like Yeah You Know It Is The Same My Name Is My Name So Like Shout Out Push My Name My Name Won't Be In Jeopardy Because You Doing Some Dumb Shit Yeah So Yeah Yeah That's A Good Assessment What You Think Joe? Pretty Accurate Your Friends Know You Your Friends Know You So Nah That's Pretty Accurate Man

[00:17:46] I Kind Of Knew He Was Going There With When He Was Gonna Say That Cause You Know He Know How How Important I I Take How My Name Is Is You Know Is In The Landscape So And I Think That's Something Most Men Should Focus On Like Having A Good Reputation Yeah Yeah And I Think What's Funny About That What's Interesting About That Too Is That Say If Kwanney Was Doing That Or Joe Or Don Or Your Mom Whoever Was Doing What You Guys Just Did Yeah

[00:18:15] It Might Sound Different Yeah No For Sure Different Perspective So I Think That's Interesting We Like I Said We We've Done That In Some Capacity In One Episode Kwanney Had To Ask Us A Couple Questions And We Went Around The Room And We Kind Of Gave A Breakdown To Everybody As Well So This Is This Isn't New And You Know I Know Women Probably Think Niggas Don't Get Around The Rooms Like This And Talk About Each Other And Give People Advice And Things Like That But We Do Yeah It's A Real Thing Like Yeah Even With The Cameras Off We Do It So It's It's And You Right It's

[00:18:44] Everybody Kind Of Has A Different Perspective I Would Say I Know You Better Than L.A. Does So Right If I Was To Speak For You And I'm Let's Go One At Let's Perspective On Style I'll Follow After Okay Because That'll Give The Concept Of I Not Knowing Vic Too Much God Okay Let's Do That Okay So Vic Style Uh Vic Is Vic Is A Fly Motherfucker Bro

[00:19:14] I Ain't Gonna Lie And It's It's Funny Cause I Think Y'all Two You And Kwanney Are Two Very Well Dressed Gentlemen And I Know Y'all Have Different Styles But It Was Really Good To See Y'all Have That Short Conversation Right Before We Started Recording About Oh What Size You Are We're Just That You Break And The Way You Break Down Why You Wear Certain Sizes Because Of That That's Your Character I've Known You For A While From Tear Down To Today It's Like Vic Has Always Been The Same Like I Know If He Like Your Fit It's Valid Valid

[00:19:41] So Vic Has Always Been That For Me As Far As Like You Know Style I Think He's Unique Um Like I Said His Shoe Game Is Always Proper He Ain't Matchy Matchy Like LaShawn That Nigga He Might Not Ever Match But Um It's Fly And It's You So You Definitely That V and Smooth Nickname Was Was I Always Thought It Was Fly Cause It Was Like It Was Representation Of You So Mmhmm Style I Would Say I Would Say Uh Vintage Oh For Sure Autistic

[00:20:12] And Um A Lot Of Antique In There Yeah I Know Y'all Got That Moment About That Shirt That Uh That Worker's Union Shirt Yeah Yeah I Remember Everything Wow That's Crazy That's Crazy Yeah Vic Vic Can Uh Vic Reminds Me Of One Of Those Game Shows Where They Give You Like X Amount Of Dollars And You Go Run And Bring Something Back That Was One Of My Favorite Shows Like Supermarket Sweep Yeah Yeah

[00:20:39] So Like He Could Go Into Like A Thrift Shop Or He Could Go Into And Bring Out Something Yeah Where Somebody Just Might Get Stuck On Something So His Uh So That's Why That's What I'll Say About His Style So Now I'll Do Uh Character Now Before You Do That Cause I Remember Um Remember It Was J-Rock Birthday Me You And Rick We Went Out To The City To Go Thrift And I Was Just Confused Yeah Like I Didn't Know What The Fuck Cause That's What These Niggas Do I'm Like Yeah I Don't Know How To Thrift Shop But These Niggas They Know That Shit Back Of They Hands So

[00:21:09] Yeah It's A Process But You Said You Was Gonna Do Uh Let's See So Personality This Might Be A Little I Was On The Outside Looking In For The Most Of The Part So From The Outside Perspective I Kind Of Resonated With Him Cause He Was Type Reserve Too Oh He Was Reserve To Himself Mm-hmm You Knew You Needed Like A Uh You Need A Wristband Like A Wristband To Get Through There Weird Facts No For Real For Real That's Funny Wow

[00:21:37] Yeah So It Was Like Access Granted Or Access Denied With Him So You Know In The Mist Of Like Our Creative Circles And You Know You Be In The Same Room The First Time We Was In The Same Room We Never Spoke The Second Time We Was In The Second Room Dap Third Time We Now Be Talking Yeah Yeah The Gradual Progression That's Funny It's Kinda Like I Saw A Skit That Was Like Uh How Men Become Friends I've Seen That A Million Times And Then They Walk In The Hallway And They Give Each Other A Head Nog Then They Dap Each Other

[00:22:07] No First Is The Front Of The Pad Yeah Yeah Yeah So That That's How I Would Say It That's Funny But I I Never Take That Personal Cause I'm The Same Way Right You Know What I'm Saying Like Oh That's Vic You Know What I'm Saying There's A Mutual Respect There For What He Do And Obviously What We Do But Then You Know You Get Formal And Then You Casual And Then Causal And All Of That Stuff And Then It's Like Oh Nah This Is Bro Yeah So Yeah I Like I Like Uh It's An Organic Thing It's An Original Thing I Like People Like That That's Not Too Friendly

[00:22:36] You Know What I'm Saying But They Are Friendly But You Just Gotta Earn That Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah I Gravitate To That Yeah That Is Ironic That's A That's A That's Really Accurate I Think It's Accurate Of Vic I Have A Sim Not Similar Cause We We Knew Each Other Differently Yeah But Um I Would How Would I Piggy Back Off Of That What Word Would I Use To Describe Vic Because I I Am Very Grateful About How He I Asked Him I Always Think About The Car Shit Like Him

[00:23:04] Like Helping Me Learn How To Drive Better In These New York Streets Cause Nobody Has To Do That Yeah You Definitely Not Taking My Car Right Right Like But He Was Like I'm Over There Thinking Like I'm Gonna Sit Passing Your Seat And Kind Of Watch And He's Like Nah Nigga Drive Home Like Drive You Know What I'm Saying And To Me That's Because He's Older Than Me I Consider That Like A Very Nurturing Character Trait Of Yours So I Always Appreciated That And I Feel Like I've Watched The Way You Navigate With Everybody In Your Life

[00:23:31] From Our Friends To You Know Your Relationships And Everything Like That I Feel Like You Treat Everybody The Same And I Think Most People Would Say That And Then You're Sneakily Sneakily Very Jokey I Think People Don't People Would Notice The Version Of Him That You Said But You Get To Know Vic He's Silly Silly Very Very Silly Motherfucker So I Think That's Another That's Like A Very Key Thing To Have In Your Back Pocket So People Know Like Or People Who Get Close To You Can Enjoy You Cause It Be Time It Was Times Where Vic Would Like Come In The Room

[00:24:00] And Say Something Silly Or Like Break The Tension In The Room And I'm Just Like I Wouldn't Expect Vic To Be The Nigga To Do That Shit But He Does It So Naturally So I Always Appreciated That About You So For Sure And Then The Last One That Was Personality I Feel Like Those Two Are Kind Of Like They Go Inside They Go Hand In Hand Yeah Yeah I Think I Yeah I Was Probably Right Grouping Them All Together So Okay Yeah Yeah So I'll Just Add Obviously Learning He's A Teacher Oh Yeah You Do A Little Kids I Teach Life Yeah

[00:24:29] I Teach Life You Know Educator You Know Another Fact So Also A Path Creator Mmhmm You Know What I'm Saying I Think Giving Giving Somebody Guidance In The Right Direction Yeah Yeah Yeah Vic Has Always Been He Always Speak Anything He Speaks On Is With Substance He Don't Really Engage With The Online Yeah Regular Banter Or If It Is He's Gonna Get The Serious Point Of It Like You're Going His Little Rants Yeah And Then You Won't Hear From Him Yeah

[00:25:00] So Yeah There Is Always A Path What You Call The Stream Of Consciousness Whatever You Fucking Use To Call That Shit Yeah Yeah Yeah So A Strong Stream Of Consciousness Yeah So That Was My Outside Perspective That Was Dope That Was Dope To Do That Was Dope I Like That I Think The First The First Question You Had On Or One Of The Questions You Had On Here Was Let Me See It Was Are You Comfortable With What Yeah Are You Comfortable With What You Just Heard Or Like

[00:25:29] Or How People Let's Say Not Only In The Room But If Let's Say We Agree That Everybody Or Most People Would Agree With What We Just Said About Each Other Are You Comfortable With That Yeah That's A Good Point Because Even You Gotta Be Vulnerable To Even Receive That Feedback Yeah That's A Fact Yeah That's A Fact You Know And That Perspective And Those Observations I'm Comfortable With That I Feel Good About That I Feel Affirmed In That Yeah You Know What I'm Saying

[00:25:58] And It's Just Interesting Too Because I Feel Like I'm A Very Open Person Like Like Like Like I'm An Open Book But I I Guess I'm Kinda Not So It's Like It's Also That Yeah Yeah Yeah That's A That's A That's A Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah I Also Know I'm Tone Deaf So It's Like Do I Sound Like I'm Black In When I'm Really Not Trying To Black Right Now You Know What That's Kinda Quanny Too Yo Quanny Just Put Something In The Notes

[00:26:26] Did You Say Something Like That Yesterday I Was Writing Shit Down Nah You You Said Tone Police Right Where You Can't Get Through A Conversation Cause Yeah Yeah They Worry About The Tone Tone That's Tough Too But Um Yeah Nah Nah Vic That Is Funny Cause You Might You Might Be A Little Tone Deaf I Am Definitely Tone Deaf You Might Be A Little Tone Deaf Cause But Cause Even When Like When You Get Serious It's Like You Might Feel Like You Here

[00:26:56] Yeah Or You Might Feel Like You Here But You Actually Even Coming Off It's Here But It Maybe That Might Play That Might Play To Your Disadvantage People Might Not Take You Serious If You Kinda Can't Elevate Your Tone And Let Niggas Know Like I Am Not Fucking Around With You Right Now Yeah Or Like If You're Not That Serious And You Just Yeah You Really Mean To Be Here But You Hear And People Misread That Like Oh Yeah So You Mean You Have Like A Monotone Approach No I Think I'm Tone Deaf Where Sometimes After I Say Something To You Depending On How You Respond Or Your Facial Expressions I'm Like Damn

[00:27:26] Did That That's A Good That's A Good Mirror Of That's A Good Way Of Fingering Out How You May Be Coming Off Based Off Of Mm-hmm Now Viewers Discretion Is Advised Because Some People May Just Be Sensitive That So If Even If I Talk Like This Or I Talk Like This Mm-hmm They Might Just Curl Up You Know But But That Is A Indicator Like Damn Maybe I'm Coming Off Like Why You Why You Squirming Right Now Yeah So Um I But Yeah To Answer Your Question

[00:27:56] I Am I Am Comfortable With Where I'm At Currently I Feel Like I Know Myself I Know When I Go In The Closet I Know When I I Know How I Want To Look Yeah That Just Makes Your Day Easy You Like This You Really Putting On A Uniform Mm-hmm You Know What I'm Saying Not A Mask It's A Uniform Because You About To Do Some Type Of Work Yeah Mm-hmm Right Um And Once You're Comfortable With That Now Is The Next Phase I Didn't Like I Was Upset That I Was Late Today

[00:28:26] Cause I Don't Oh I'm Not A Lived Person Man Break Some Of That Energy For You Know I Don't Like Being Late Like Um That's The Cancer In Us Yeah Like So I Don't Like It Either By The Way I Just Want To Make That Clear Yeah Yo Y'all Niggas Know I Don't I'm Not A Late Person Yeah Yeah Um So That That Boom That's The Character Right I Go You Go You Put Your Uniform On Mm-hmm

[00:28:54] Alright What's What Does My Day Or Week Look Like Boom What's On My Plate This Week Oh It's A Busy Week Alright What's My Like What's My Character What Am I Going To Get Done Am I Going To Go To The Gym After Work Or Am I Going To Make An Excuse That I'm Tired Right Am I Am I Going To Uh Start That New Blog Or Painting Or Whatever You Know That Creative Process Am I Going To Start That Or Am I Going To Make Another Excuse Mm-hmm Right So All Of That All Of That Goes Into Your Character

[00:29:23] And Then It's Like Now Your Personality Comes In Because We Don't Live In A Bubble Every Every Day We're Interacting With People Yeah Right Um Whether It's Digitally Or Physically Right In Person Um So It's Like How Am I Gonna What Are They What Are They What Type Of Memory Am I Going To Leave With This Person I Think I Think That's How You Set Up Your Day Into Your Week Into Your Week Into Your Months Into Your Year And That Is Who You Are

[00:29:53] Yeah Nah I Feel Like I Care I Do Care A Lot About The Even If It's A Small Interaction With Anybody Mm-hmm It's Like Okay Once I Walk Away The Analyzation That I Do Is Like Did I Leave This Did I Leave This Scenario Or This Situation Did This Person Did This Person Enjoy That Experience Whether It Was Short Or Like A Lengthy One Mm-hmm Did They Enjoy Like Would They Be Able To Go Back On Their Own And Be Like Oh Koja Koja Was Pleasant Today Yeah Like I Enjoyed Seeing You Today

[00:30:23] I Enjoyed Talking To You Today I I Guess My My Most Recent Interaction With Multiple People Was At Kai and Nico Show And I Was Just Making Sure That Everybody That I Spoke To That Day Who Hadn'T Seen Me In A While Or Who Had Just Recently Seen Me Knew That I Was In Great Spirits I Was In A Great Mood I Was Happy To See Them Mm-hmm Because I Want To Continue On That That Known Reputation That Yo This Nigga Is A Pleasant Person To Be Around Mm-hmm You Know What I'm Saying If You Want It To Be Pleasant I I I Push You To Just Be Authentic Yeah Yeah

[00:30:52] If That Happens To Be Pleasant Cool Mm-hmm But I Don't My Goal Isn'T To Be Pleasant Mm-hmm My Goal Is Just To Be Who I Am Right Now You Might Think It's Pleasant Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah But Then She Might Think It's Cocky Yeah And Then He Might Think It's Rude And But Do You Know Who You Are Yeah Okay Yeah Yeah Yeah Because Then You Become A People Pleaser Mm-hmm Mm-hmm Cause Then You Focus On How Every Other Person Out There Is Which Sorry Yeah You Good Sometimes Joke Has

[00:31:22] I Think That Might Sometimes Be Your Narrative I Don't Know If You're Aware Of It That I'm A People Pleaser Yeah Damn Is It I Mean Are You Are You Comfortable With That I Mean If I'm If I'm Not Coming Out Of Myself Out Of Myself In My Shell To Make Sure That People Are Happy Right I'm Okay With It If I Was Doing Strange Shit For That I'd Be Like I Somebody Hold Me Accountable Like If Y'all Saw Me On The Streets Doing Some Uncharacteristical Things To Make Sure That People Was Pleased

[00:31:51] Right Then They Can Put Me On The Back Of My Shirt Like Yeah But If You See Me And I'm Just I Am Making Sure That Everybody Good Like I Call It The Obama Effect Like Making Sure Everybody Cool Chilling A lot Smiling Oh You Need Something I'll Get You A Drink If I'm Doing That That's Me That's Always Been Me It's Always Gonna Be Me Probably So I'm Okay With Being Known As A People Pleaser If It's Not If I'm Not Losing Myself Doing It You Know What I'm Saying Valid I Think That Term Maybe Seen A Lot Of Words Get Yeah Negative Stain

[00:32:21] Yeah But If You Take The Power Of If You Take Power From That And You I Think I Can I Can Be Okay With Or If You Just Stick To The Definition Right Of The Words Of The Words Because I This Is A Side It Was Actually In The Notes But I Could Use This Now I Was Talking To Somebody And She Was Like She Tried To She Tried To Use The Term Sassy To Kind Of Offend Men And I Was Like Just Going Based Off The Definition Of Sassy That Doesn't Align With What You're Really Trying To Describe Yeah

[00:32:51] You Know So She Was Talking About You Gay No No She Wasn't Talking About Me But Even Then Like That That's Still Offensive Right So If A Man Has A Certain Expectation That Is Probably Not Popular Within Society That Doesn't Mean That He's Sassy You Know Please Don't Confuse Him Wanting Recipication Or He's Giving The He's Conserving His Energy Because He Doesn't Really Feel Much From You

[00:33:20] As Him Wanting To Be Chased That's Not The Same Thing And He Doesn't Deserve To Be Called Sassy Because Of That So You Know Talk To These Niggas It's Like We Take Words And We Don't Use The Definition Of Them We Label It Based Off Of What The New Trend Is To Become Offensive Yeah Yeah Yeah And Sassy Is Not The Word I Think People Are Looking For And That Goes Right Into Perception Is Reality? Question Mark Or Is Perception Not Really Reality?

[00:33:49] It Depends How Long You're Being Perceived Cause If I'm Being Perceived In This In These 30 Minutes Of Like If We In A Function Right? And Let's Just Use Burgers And Bottles Again That May Be A Wrong Perception Of Who I Was Or Who I Am Because You Might See Me At The Next Function I Don't Know No? Cause Look Look Look Look Look Look We Go To IP The Next Day Was It The Next Day? Or The Next Weekend? No No No No The Next Weekend And Where Was I? In The Corner In The Corner

[00:34:18] Back Where I Really Belong In The Corner Chilling Found A Seat Didn't Give Up My Seat To Let It's Time For Me To Go I Thought About That Too I'm Like People I Think People I Think LA Is Miserable Over Here He Is Chilling So Wait So Are You Saying You Were Stepping Out Of Your Comfort Zone For Sure Or Were You Saying That You Were Doing Uncharacteristic Shit I Was Stepping Out Of My Comfort Zone Okay I Made Sure I Remained In Character Okay

[00:34:46] But I Revealed My Character More So So That Wall That I Usually Have That Don't Let Anybody In You Know I Unlocked The Code For The Day Everybody Had You Know Free Access To Come Through You Said Yeah I Got The Front Row Tier Yeah Facts You Get Your Front Row Tier Facts Facts So But That Was Kind Of A Mindset Thing Like I Said I Went Into It With The Mindset Of I Don't Have A Screwed Up Face Be Approachable Be Nice Be Nice

[00:35:16] Yeah But That's The Perception Thing That Joe Kind Of Got On Me About Yo You May Be Coming Off This Way Yeah So The Perception That Day Did Become My Reality Because I Didn't Want People To Leave Thinking Yo LaShawn Is Stush Or Standoffish When In Actuality I'm Not I'm Just Reserved That's It Yeah He Might Be A Little Shy But Even That Too But I'm Comfortable With That Right You Know I'm Saying I Could Be In Any Room Be In The Corner

[00:35:44] Hear Somebody Say Yo Why He Feel Like He To Himself And Not Around And Not Be Like Alright Let Me Sit Next To People And You Still Having A Good Time And I'm Usually Having The Best Of Time Having A Blast Facts I'm Having The Best Of Time So The Ideas Is Running Facts Facts That's Funny But I Like The Subtopic Of Growth Mmhmm I Was Just Looking At That Growth What Is It Why Is It Frowned Upon Or Clowned In Our Generation Are You Really Doing The Work

[00:36:14] Or Are You Making It Look Good For The Optics Now I Have It's Loaded Yeah I Wanna Why Do You Think Growth Is Frowned Upon Well What Made You Like Add That Part Um In Actually I Thought About It On The Drive Here Mmhmm I Actually Didn't Really I Think I Used The Wrong Words Okay I Think It's I Think It's Become A Buzz Word So Not Frowned Upon But It's More So Saturated Right

[00:36:43] It's Become A Buzz Word And Everyone Thinks They're Doing The Work To Grow Oh Shit Right Everyone Thinks They're Doing The Work To Grow Okay Um Based On What They Might Read Or What They Might See Or Their Experiences But I Don't Know It's Tough I Think Often People Conveniently Grow Hmm Elaborate I Just Came Up With That Term For Moments

[00:37:12] For Moments Right Optics Because If You're Growing Mmhmm And You're Doing The Work That Shows Up You Don't You Don't Know You Don't Know When You're Growing No The People On The Outside You Is The Audience The Audience Doesn't Know You're Doing That Work Entirely Yeah People Are Marketing Their Growth They're Marketing Their Growth

[00:37:41] But We See You They're Advertising Their Growth Yeah Yeah That's Joke That's Like When They Say You Go To The Gym Right But You Didn't Record It So Were You There Yeah I Hate That Shit Or You Pop Out Joe Imagine Joe Pop Out On The Summer Oh It's Coming Yeah Like We Don't Remember That Joe Yeah Yeah Yeah So Are You Really Doing The Work Or Is Joe Just Posting Every Now And Then A Selfie But He Ain't Left A Damn Weight Mmhmm He Just Went To The Gym I

[00:38:11] Yeah I'm Here I'm Here You See Him Four Months Later Still Skinny Same Same That Was Me So What Were We Thinking On That I Agree That Was Fire I Agree Um You Think People Really Out Here Marketing Their Shit Kind Of But How They Doing It Though They Doing It Like Through They Doing It Through The End Result Mmhmm You Don't Never See The The Struggle The Struggle Of The Yeah

[00:38:41] Of The Yeah Facts Because You You See How Somebody Started You Don't Never Hear Like Too Much Of The Frustration Until Yeah And Then That's When You Get The Long Paragraphs Of All The Long Nights The 72 Days Nobody Saw The Tears That's Because You Didn't Show Us The Tears You Didn't Show Us The Roadblock You Went Through And Even If If That's Something You Kept To Yourself Cool Mmhmm But I Think That's Fake That That Also Gives The False Hope Too Mmhmm Cause If You Make Everything Look Good

[00:39:11] And Nobody Really Knows The Struggles Of What It Takes To Do This Or Do That Then You're Only Perceived As A Winner A Success A Success Yeah The The Trials And Tribulation Part Is Only In The Acceptance Speech But Wouldn't Wouldn't Somebody Else Say If You Added The Struggle Into Your Marketing Wouldn't People Also Have A Problem With You Marketing The Struggle As Well It Depends It Depends

[00:39:37] So The Thing About Marketing Is The Relatability Part Mmhmm Cause Everybody Can Relate To Struggling Yeah But If You Make It Look Clean Like If You Make Your Struggle Look Clean You Can't Make A Negative Bank Account Look Clean Brother You Right But If I Would Have If I Would Have But Listen Listen Listen Listen Let Me Tell You Something Though Let Me Tell You Something Let Me Tell You The Difference Though They You Don't Show The Negative People Don't Show The Negative Bank Account At That Moment Okay They Show It When With The Screenshot

[00:40:06] When They Now Have A Million Dollars Okay Nigga I Don't I'm Not Jacking A Negative Two Hundred Dollars Right Now I Just See The Emmy Account Yeah Yeah But When They See Like Oh You Know The It's Kinda Like The Passion Of The What's The Will Smith Movie With His Son Oh I'm Sure Happy You Kinda Felt Relief For Him When He Got The Job Cause You Seen The Struggle Throughout Yeah Nobody Shows That Part Yeah Yeah You Know What I'm Saying So I Think That's That's The Marketing Of It You Know

[00:40:34] It's Kinda Like If Everybody From The Day One To The Pod And Then We Get To A Success Point It's Like Oh I Seen It When They Was Trying To Figure This Out The Whole Way Through No Cameras We Never We Never Hit The Hit Our The What The Grip That We Have With Trying To Grow This Thing And Then When We Finally Cracked And It's Like Oh Okay They Did It We Seen How They Did It So I Don't Think People Will Look At It As Oh We Marketed The Struggle

[00:41:03] We Was Just Going Through Emotions Yeah Going Through The Emotions And You Know It's Just I Don't Think This Is A Good A Bad I Just I Just Think It's Interesting I Feel Like A Lot Of Times Too People Think That I Talk I Feel Like I'm Misunderstood Often I Don't Know It Might Be The Tone Deaf Thing It Might Be The Whatever I Don't Know But I Think Sometimes People Think If I Have A Rebuttal That I'm Challenging You But I'm Just More So Pushing The Thought Process Yeah You Know

[00:41:32] Yeah That's What I Do On This Pod By The Way Yeah Just Want To Make That Clear There's No Good Or Bad In It But It's Just Interesting Cause It's Like Is Our Life Marketing? Because We're In The Day And Age Of Like Social Media For Sure It Is Is It Actually Should We Market Ourselves? I'm Not Really Selling I'm Not Really Selling Nothing Right Truthfully For Sure I'm Not Selling Nothing You Can't Get Nothing Over Here However I Do Like To Inspire

[00:42:02] Yeah And If That If That's If I Can Use Marketing In The Way I Post Certain Things Or I Show Up In Certain Places Or I Show How I Support Other People That May Inspire Somebody Like Get They Shit Together Or Like Yo Like Oh If He Could Do It I Could Do It Too Or Like I Said A Couple Top Of The Month I Had Just Posted How Like My Ten Years From Leaving College And Being Broke And Fighting Through All Which Was Interesting Cause I Never Really Heard That Story So Yeah Yeah That Was Dope I Marked I Think I Marked It

[00:42:32] I Think I Marked It In My Last Four Years On The Pod Sometime Somewhere Like But The Whole Journey I Just Couldn't Yeah I Couldn't I Couldn't I Just Couldn't I Was Living I Was Literally Living It So There's No Time to Just Like Oh Let Me Document When Like I Lost My Well I Did Kind Of I Did Document That Too Your Wallet Nah I'm Talking About Like When I First Got Let Go By Asylum I Put Out A Video Cause It Was My Right Before My Birthday Yeah And I Just Put Out A Video Just Letting Everybody Know My Life Update Cause I'm Like

[00:43:01] When You Live That Life And It Was Such A Prominent A Prominent Thing In My Life And People Kind Of Just Attributed Everything That Was Going On With That Label To Me At The Time And Then When I Let When I Get Let Go And People Don't Know That It Starts To Get Annoying When They're Like Oh Can You Do This For Me Can You Do This For Me I'm Just Like Oh I Don't Work here No More Bro See The Thing About That That's Kind Of Why I Like I Like Being Reserved Because I Get To Hold Everything To Myself The Good The Bad The Ugly You Know I Don't Have To Share Too Much Yeah

[00:43:29] It's The Same Reason Why I Didn't Share When I First Moved In I Didn't Do The Little Keys Photo Yeah You Can Do That Right Now If You Want But I Didn't Show The Other Part Prior To That You Know What I'm Saying So You Kinda You Kinda You Know How They Say If You Want Something You Hold It Tight To The Heart You Don't Tell Nobody So I Kinda I Kinda I Kinda Live Through That Too But In The Mists Of Growth I Wanna Bring Up This But When I Saw That I Was Like Joe Has

[00:44:01] Kind Of Not Blame I Won't Say Blame But He Has Put A Lot On Me By Saying That The Pod The Pod Would Be Bigger Yeah If I Would Be More Front Facing So I Maybe I Didn't Notice You Posted More Yeah That's Because of that Right So Everybody Joe Was Like Yo You Stunt In The Growth Of The Pod You Can't Be Frustrated By Behind The Back Analytics

[00:44:30] If You Not Front Facing If You Not If You Not The One You Talk The Most So You Gotta See You Gotta Push You Gotta Post And Stuff Like That So That's The Part Where I Wanna Ask Like The Uncomfortable Growth In Front Of Everybody Because Now I Feel Like Alright Let Me Force I Got Force I Got Force I Got Force It Don't Feel Like A Force Though For Me From The Viewing Side Yeah But That's That's That's The I Don't Want To Say The Performance Factor Of It

[00:45:00] But I'm Just Intentional With It Yeah Yeah Um But I Will Say Like I Said Last Week We Went Live Last Week Because I Posted It On My Page I Feel Like We Had More We That Was The Most Interactive Live We've Had Since We Went Live So Nigga Give Me A Nigga He You Got In My Car Line Thank You Thank You Nah For Real I Didn't Bro I I Bought That I Ain't Buying It Check The Cleaner I Searched It Up It's In My Car Nigga The Influencer Yo

[00:45:29] Look At This Nigga But See Like For Me Little Shit Like That Yeah You I Hear You But It's Like What Does That None Of My Name What Does That Translate To You Know What I'm Saying Um You Being More Valuable Mm And Sometimes And It's Crazy And Sometimes The People Around You Yeah Put The Value With You Have Value Bro Niggas Wouldn't Give Michael Jordan All Them MVPs And Even Shea Giles Alexander The MVP That He Just Got If

[00:45:58] Other People Didn't Value Him It's Not Just His Self Value It's About The Value That Other People See He Had To Break The Narrative That Oh Jokic Is The Best Player In The Fucking World But Nah I'm Here Like He Niggas Talk About The Narrative To He Had To Step Into That Narrative Shit And Like Every Interview He Would Not Shut It Off Completely Like Just Say Nah I'm The Best You Gotta Play Into That You Gotta Drop The Sneaker You Gotta Do The Commercials You Gotta Do That To Make Sure That You Can Stop This Little Serbian Niggas From Winning Another One Like Cause He's Gonna Get It You Might Get It Next Year

[00:46:28] But I've Seen Other People Be Reserved And Still Be Successful Please Elaborate I Would Love Okay Yes Valid That Is He's Not Wrong He's Not Wrong There Is No Like Perfect Yeah That's What Vic Started One Of The Biggest New York City Brands In Our History As In The Millennials And All Of That Stuff Right Reserved But What He Had To His Advantage Was That He Wasn't Alone I Wasn't Alone Yeah He Had Team

[00:46:55] I Would Say A Team Member That Was More Of The Outwardly Person Yeah Which Helped Because He Didn't Have To Step Out Because He Had A Teammate That Would Do It And He Was Still Be Able Is Not Kojo And Don My Teammates? Yeah But See The Difference Is He's Cooking He Is Cooking However However When People Think Of What's A Good Guy They Do Not Think Of Me I Am I Am Like A Third Newcomers Or Old Newcomers Newcomers Okay This Started In 2017

[00:47:25] This Is 2025 Yeah You Know What I'm Saying Yeah I Would Say In The Last Two Years I've Been On Mic Regularly Yeah I Wasn't On Mic Before I Did All The Outward For That I Was Doing On The Outward For Years That's True But Niggas To Me It Was Always My Brother's Podcast Yeah And I Was Always Okay With Just Being A Behind The Scenes Helper Yeah A Lot Of Niggas Don't Know Quandtie Takes These Pictures A Lot Of People Don't Know Dane Is On Production That's Not True I Make Sure I Tag Yeah No I'm Saying A Lot Of People Yeah Even Some Of The OGs But The Thing Is Yeah I

[00:47:53] Like I Said I Go Outside People Talk About What's A Good Guy To Me It's Gonna Feel It Feels Special Mm-hmm But It Will Never Feel As Special Unless These Two Niggas Hear It And That's Kind Of How I Operated In The Sense Of Like All right Don Is Don Go Outside More Yeah So Don Could Be The Personal One Where They Go Up To Him You Know What I'm Saying And I Be Like The Chill One Yeah But Kojo's Emphasis On Yo LaShawn You Could You You Will Help Push This Further If You Come Outside More Mm-hmm

[00:48:23] Or Tweet A Little Bit So I Want To Ask You So I Want To Ask You When It Was Your When You Were A Part Of Terry Mm-hmm Were That The Conversations They Were Having With You That You Was Too Quiet Oh Not Really I Feel Like I Feel Like I This Goes Back Into Like Who You Are And Your Character And I Feel Like I Was Always The The Like I Was The Like Even Keel Very Personable

[00:48:52] Yeah Like I Would Say You In A Movie You Will Come Up To Me In Pop-Up Shops Yeah You Know My Style You Know I'm Flea Like Oh How I Put This Together With This And Like I Would Help You Style Stuff You Know What I'm Saying Just Real Approachable Easy To Talk To So I I Don't I Don't Really Think Per Se I Was Like I Think That Happens Naturally Because When You Own Something Mm-hmm You Need To Push It Heavily So Do You Think You It Adds It Don't It Don't Hurt

[00:49:22] Do You Think It Uh Tear Could Have Been Bigger If You Were More Vocal Like The Way Joe Was With Me I Was Big It's Pretty Big I Know No No No No No I Mean Like Obviously Yeah I Think I Think Like Again I Think Like Even In The Magazine The Press Articles And Stuff Like That It Was Like Damn More Vic Words Or Solo Interviews Yeah And You Know I Didn't Really Care About That Cause Again I'm Kind Of Like You I Don't I Don't Need

[00:49:50] I Didn't Crave Or Need That Spotlight Or Attention I'm One Of Those People I Liked Being I Know I See Vic Yeah Cause I Never Felt I Love That I Never Felt Unseen Yeah Yeah And You Don't Me It Would Be A Problem If You Do Feel Unseen In Your Community It's like, yo, damn, mama. Nobody pinched me. Hi, guys. Look at me. That's what I'll be trying to tell you. I'm kind of like those, like, I consider myself a tastemaker, right?

[00:50:18] Other people, I don't know what their thoughts are. But I think they would agree. You know what I'm saying? Like, I'm someone that I don't have a 100K following or 15, whatever. I don't have a big following. But I think I have that respect and that credibility. For sure. And people see it and people tell me all the time. So they talk for me before I even have to talk for myself. And I like that. I'm going back to the show because I love that.

[00:50:48] I can see you comfortably going back to the show. LA, I'd be like, oh, it's cool. But he has to know that there may be a risk to that. Yeah. Right? So then when we do have our conversations on the back end, we're just chilling and talking and it comes up like, what we got to do to go to this level. Yeah. I'm going to remain consistent. Okay. My answer won't change. And I have learned about myself too.

[00:51:17] Because also, I should add that. What, like, how you navigate the space is continuing to learn about yourself and saying it out loud? Right now, this is out loud. I've learned that I am creatively, I am inconsistently consistent in being inconsistent. Creatively. Inconsistently consistent in being consistent. So there is no consistency. So I got a question. You know, it's weird because it's like. You're consistently inconsistent. Yeah.

[00:51:46] I could get into a bag and I'm on a roll. Yeah. If LA starts posting, it's going to be like, damn, where LA went? Like, we was on to something. Like, I'm learning little nuances about LA. Yeah. And then he's gone. And then maybe in three months, LA go on a spree. Like, every week, every day, posting his meals. And oh, shit. LA eats there? Like, I don't even know what LA eats. But you know what? Here's what I noticed about success. If LA started becoming a chef, let's just say.

[00:52:15] Because he has a new love for cooking. I do. Right? If he started doing cooking content, no bullshit. The pot will pop. Yeah. The pot will pop. Because here's what happens, right? There's a bunch of fair weather people that will be like, oh, no. I like cooking content. And this nigga can cook. Yeah. And he got a fly crib. And he do it his way. Yeah. I'm locked in. I fuck with this nigga. Yeah. And then when he come on the screen with a what's a good guy shirt. Yeah. Or apron. Or apron. Right? Because that'd be fly. What's a good guy eats. Uh-huh. Now they're already like, oh, now I'm fucking with it. Yeah. Episode drop on Monday.

[00:52:45] Yeah. Oh, I'm about to tap in. They listen to an episode that hit them right in the heart. Oh, I'm here for sure. Yeah. Because this nigga cook and they talk about some real shit. That's how you trick the mind. It sounds like, I'm telling you. You're right, Joe. And it did not come from potting. It wasn't like, oh, I posted a link. They saw the episode. Exactly. They was like, nah, I'm fucking with this nigga because he could cook. Because he could cook. And now you got a new. Yeah. That's literally. He literally broke down the silence, bro. I keep telling you. I've seen. But the thing is. Wow. I can change the. I can change the end goal and the inception.

[00:53:15] Help him out with that thing. Help him out with that. He's going to set up the camera. He got the thing is, he got all the tools. You do. This is all his shit. I'm sure he got a bunch of tripods. Yeah. And they got the joint that sticks above. He got it all. That's fire. You know what I'm saying? So. You could even do an episode where you're just in the. Like, you get a camera angle in the kitchen. Wow. Well, okay. Okay. 100%. So we always talk about, like, the growth of excelling. What about the growth of walking away?

[00:53:45] Mm-hmm. When you outgrow. Yes. You outgrow something. You outgrow walking. Outgrowth meaning. Yeah. Yeah. When you get to that point, you're gone. Yeah. That is valid. Can you talk to us about. I see what you're alluding to. Yeah. Motherfucker. What was. It's not ending. Huh? The pod is never. Oh. The pod is never. Yeah. The pod definitely has. I mean. Again. Let me. Let me. Let me. Let me rewind. Because I can't decide that for you. This is your baby. Right. Right.

[00:54:15] Um. When do you think this baby is 18 and they should, like, go and get in, like, a crib? Spread their wings. Yeah. That's. That's what you do. Mm-hmm. And then you might go and have another baby. Mm-hmm. And that's cool. And you might foster and grow that. Mm-hmm. Um. So. Yeah. I don't. That negative connotation of, like, someone leaving or. It's not necessarily leaving. It's just more so. This is not. It could be. It could be. This is not working. Or it could be.

[00:54:44] I have outgrown this phase. Mm-hmm. And it's not making sense. Mm-hmm. It don't make sense. Let me figure out what will make me happy. What will make me successful. What is my actual reality? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And what do I need? Mm-hmm. So that I feel happy and successful. Yep. Yo, selfishly for me, when I. When my friends get to that point and anything that they want to do. I just always want to make sure that they not just leaving to go do some regular shit. Like, especially if you're creative and talented. Like, ah, yo.

[00:55:14] Let's say this is not working for you no more. You giving up. But what's wrong with that? Hey, hey, hey. Okay. It's not. It's nothing wrong with it. Right. But it's just. Joe just wants to inspire. I told you. Like, all right, bro. You're not potting no more. But can you, like, go do some other cool shit? Like, don't just go be a dad, bro. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Prioritize my church. Like, literally. Don't go. That little nigga be aight. Like, you know? Like, nah. But that's just selfish of me.

[00:55:42] But I can understand it as a human, as a man. Like, yeah. This was me in my mid-20s to my mid-30s. And now I'm done. Yeah. Now I'm done. That was a good run. And when I'm 40 or when I'm 45, 10 years from now, I can tell somebody, hey. Yo, y'all remember when I was on fire back in the day? And I raised history. You know what I'm saying? I raised history. You could always talk. You never die. Never. Never fucking die. So that way. I'm a little bit lean on that. But I know for me. So what was that mindset for you then? I think.

[00:56:11] What Joe was saying, he would probably say I went on to some regular shit. Right? Like, the segue. No, no, no. But I find what I'm doing elite. The refereeing shit is fire to me. It's fire to me. And unexpected. Because it's a very random. Side Hustle. But it's like, I've played ball with Vic for years, too. It's like, we love the game. Yeah. Might be in first love, maybe? No? Yeah, definitely. Okay, so we love the game. So yeah, I can't go pro. Well, fuck it. I'm going to go ref. Yeah. That's fire. Yeah.

[00:56:39] But he found, he had, you can't erase his history, what he's done in his previous run. What was that, what was that, that mental and emotional battle of walking away, let someone say, while you was at the top? Um, I think it's when does it make sense comes to the forefront of your mind, right?

[00:57:08] Does it make sense? Is it, is it working for me? Right? It's a, it's a selfish feeling. Mm-hmm. Um, but we all in this world, because we need to do things for ourself, right? At the end of the day, we only have ourself. So, um, naturally, I'm like, damn, okay, I got bills packing up. I got this. Mm-hmm. I got this. This is what I want to do. I'm not speaking about it on a regular, so no one knows that this is what I need and this

[00:57:37] is what I want to truly feel successful in myself and what I got going on, because within knowing yourself, you wear many hats. So, while some people might know me as, oh, Vic the designer or Vic the stylist or Vic the artist or Vic the dean or Vic the brother, the cousin, the son, right? Or the frat. Or the frat, right?

[00:58:00] It's, I wear so many hats and it's like, I needed to make a pivot for more, like, life goals. Okay. More life goals that will set me up for success in the future. I was, um, I don't know if you heard the heart part six, Kendrick. Yeah, one of my favorite records. Um, in the midst of that song, he talks about how he felt the guilt of, like, black hippie not taking off. Mm-hmm.

[00:58:30] And he felt like he owed them because he was the- The face. The face. Yeah. He became the face, but his creative mind or- He moved on from it, but he still harps the guilt of that never- Uh, was there any guilt that you felt? Yeah. Absolutely. I feel, A, this isn't- This is not what I, like, manifested, right? It's not what I manifested. It's not what I thought. But the end goal with, because I don't really truly know the end goal.

[00:58:59] I don't think anyone does. Um- Yeah, there's not a lot of end goals in creativity, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The shit could change forever, forever, forever, forever. Because whoever sets the bar is kind of like, oh, are we chasing that? And then the bar might change. Yeah. There's no way. And it's just two, you know, different roads in that path. And it's just like, hmm. When you get to that juncture, what do you truly do? You know what I mean? Do you continue to do things for the optics? Mm-hmm.

[00:59:27] Or do you do things that, do you just, like, lock into, okay, what do I actually need for myself that actually makes sense right now at this juncture? And for everyone, because, to be honest, when you're on a team-based type of thing, it's a little bit of a different dynamic. Yeah. If you're just by yourself. Yeah. That's why Kwanee is, like, it's funny we talk about that, because Kwanee is by himself, right? Yeah. And then you watch him develop, right? He has his brand.

[00:59:57] Then he realizes, like, all right, I got other visions and other goals. Let me not neglect those. Let me make sure everything's eaten at once. Yeah. So I see, like, he made a post the other day. He's like, this is my proudest moment. But he did not forget that since Sandeer. Like, he made it clear, like, yo, I'm doing a lot of fly shit over here, and I'm establishing foundation for myself, my future, and some goals. But don't forget, like, nah, I still did. This is in the midst of him dropping a new collection. So, like, he's able, I don't know how hard it is.

[01:00:26] I'll never know how hard it is to do this shit by yourself, Kwanee, but I respect that you didn't let it get too far into the journey where you didn't get a chance to establish everything. And now, hopefully, you can move everything together at once or, you know, be able to pull as you climb if something falls behind. So. Yeah. I know that shit. And again, I don't really have guilt in going a different path.

[01:00:52] I'm more so, I more so wonder what could have been. Right? That's scary. That's with everything. That's scary. But that, that, that. But I'm still happy. Yeah. For where we came. Oh, for sure. You know what I mean? Yeah. And the impact and the legacy and the. Bro, there's no better feeling than sitting at the bus stop looking to the left. Well, not drop. I'm in my car. I get to the bus stop.

[01:01:19] I look to my left and I see just an old woman with a tear hat on. I'm just like. Yeah. I see him every day on the flight. Like, nigga, yo, we really dropped one of the hardest, hardest hats in the world, bro. Yeah. Everywhere you go, somebody got one of them shit's on, bro. Yeah. Iconic. And that's for any brand. You know what I mean? Yeah. I'm sure every designer gets that feeling. Yeah. That shit is. That shit is. Unreal. And you know what's funny, too? Thinking about driving. I listen to. I listen to what's a good guy. Mostly in the car. Where? Yeah. Y'all ever took a poll?

[01:01:49] Like, where do you listen to what's a good guy? In your crib? Come on, LA. Do the work. Don't look at me, nigga. I'm a TV nigga. It's funny. I sit here. I sit here. Record the episode. Even back when I was editing the audio, I would sit there, record the episode or edit the audio. Go home Monday. I'm watching it like I didn't just sit through it. Bro, I have to watch it on TV, though. I just have to see the work and the final stage. That's just how I am. I can't listen to just audio. Okay.

[01:02:18] So, with the growth. Yep. Support. It's the support. You know how niggas say congratulations is like the... You ever seen a picture where congratulations is like the full stands and support is the one nigga? Yeah. Support is tough, bro. Support is tough because it's just... As an individual, as a creative or whatever the case may be, how you get support is based on your end goals, right?

[01:02:44] So, like, if I'm a podcaster or, you know, a show producer, support is watching my show, subscribing to my Patreon, sharing it with your friends, talking about it at work. The same shit niggas do with... Or clipping it up and putting it on a timeline. The same shit niggas do with Joe Bender podcast. It's like... That's how most people see success because he has one of the biggest podcasts on the fucking planet, right? Whereas, like, when I'm driving here and I'm listening to JVP and I'm stopping the light, niggas is, like, listening too because they listen to it too.

[01:03:14] Right. So, it's that name recognition and that took people to support in this avenue. Is that how you see support when it comes to, like, this creative space? As crazy as it sounds, I view support differently. There was a point in time where my support, I wanted it from my peer group.

[01:03:38] And then over the course of time, a lot of the support came from people I don't know. Mm-hmm. So, like, Joe would tell you. Somebody would run up to him and tell him about the pod. And what Joe would do is tell him, hold that thought. He would call me. And there's a person on the other line that I did not know listened to the pod. Yeah.

[01:03:59] So, I think a lot of the listeners now are people that I didn't grow up with or, you know, so I used to gauge my support. I wasn't being supportive because my group chat wasn't listening. Or my peer group, my circle wasn't listening. Now, support now is if you hear something that, you know, entices you, talk about it with the other people. You know, let the message go a little bit further than what you just heard.

[01:04:27] Don't, I think one of the, one of the most backhanded compliments, but I don't think people know that it's a backhanded compliment, is, yo, y'all should be bigger. That shit, like, yo, y'all are too good not to be known. Thanks? Yeah, how you take that? You feel me? Like, I, what am I? You're right? Yeah. Yeah, I feel that.

[01:04:56] You know, I say that to myself all the time. I get what they saying. Like, yo, y'all doing some dope shit that I wish it was bigger. But I think that's kind of a constant reminder that I'm not where I want this to be at. But that shit, I hold, like, the straightest face, but in the back of my mind, I'm like, yo, like, that compliment is not what y'all think it is. Y'all should be bigger, man. Ain't no reason why y'all not the hottest in New York. There's a lot of reasons, gang. But it's not that person that's saying his fault.

[01:05:26] Yeah, no, no, no. That's why, that's why, yeah. It's just how I receive that compliment. Like, yo, you should, yo. It's like anybody who got a great talent, but they don't have the odds. Oh, yo, you could be as big as... Nigga, you don't think that's what I'm working on? Yeah. You know what I'm saying? So... But how about hearing that and saying, you know what? You fucking right. Yeah, no. You fucking right.

[01:05:52] I don't project my response onto the person because I know they don't mean no harm by that. No, but I'm saying, what if that's, like, the next nigga that come up to you and say that, the conversation is, like, thanks. It's like, yeah, nigga, yo, you got any ideas on what I could do? Like, you damn fucking right. These niggas sleeping on me. Yeah, anytime somebody say that to me, I'd be like, yo, share it with your boys, bro. That's it. That's not enough, though. Like, oh, like at the Burgers and Bottles, keep bringing this up. Every person that was like, oh, I listened to the pod, you subscribe to the Patreon? So that is...

[01:06:22] So then... What is that support? Is that a support response? Yeah, that's a support response because if you enjoy the pod so much, you're going to enjoy what else is behind this paywall, you know what I'm saying? We feed more than one episode a week to the public. So they tell you this... They say this comment, right? Mm-hmm.

[01:06:44] Do you also then self-reflect and be like, go into your mental checklist and like, I do this, I do this, I do this, I'm doing this. What else do I need to do? I do that every day. Hey. There's support and then there's the turning point. Yeah. Right? There's always the turning point. I'd say as a... Even though I was working at Tier at this time, I could say as a consumer, I remember the

[01:07:12] turning point was when y'all dropped Tier Essentials. Yeah, turning point. Easily, by far, it was like every nigga in the city had to get one of them colors in some capacity. Even during the pandemic, niggas, head crack niggas with that new flavor, the new flavors. And it was like, yo, what is... Who is this brand? I remember the day, because I was running the Twitter at the time. I remember shit going viral. I'm just like, this is the turning point. Yeah. You're damn right it was the turning point.

[01:07:38] That's what turned Tier into what it became. Yeah. Even though it was still like the hottest shit in the... It was hot in the streets. Mm-hmm. What was that? 2019? 2019. 2019? Yeah. So you start a journey in 2014. Five years later, you hit your turning point. No matter how consistent you was, how fucking fire everything was before that, that turning point. So everybody that came up to y'all in the streets was like, yo, I see what y'all doing. Y'all niggas should be bigger. It should be bigger. It should be bigger.

[01:08:08] It's a turning point. Niggas don't got to say that shit to you no more. Yeah. So all that support that came before it didn't really even matter. Yeah. It kept you afloat, maybe. Yeah. It kept you going. It's like, oh, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe. It's a turning point. Everybody who is successful has one of those. And support isn't old. It's not. Support comes after the turning point. Yeah. But it had to be a moment in time or a moment of time that make people say, this is where I need to invest in. Yeah.

[01:08:36] I feel, I feel what's a good guy turning point. You feel like it came already or it's coming? I know it's coming. I don't know if y'all could feel it from the inside. So the crazy part that we, who you are. Yeah. That I wish we would have wrote down, maybe we could touch on. It's the patience. Yeah. You got to be patient with your growth. You know? Mm-hmm. Because even, even like, we could use the gym.

[01:09:05] Like, you could visually see when you lose all the weight. Six-pack. The muscles. But every workout ain't gone. You not gonna see that one pound you lost. Mm-hmm. Usually you don't see the weight until somebody start telling you, oh, you slimming down. Yeah. Like, that body dysmorphia. Yeah. I have a success dysmorphia with this podcast. Like, no matter how much people tell me, yo, I listen.

[01:09:36] Every Friday, I check the analytics. I'm like, nah, it's not there yet. We're not moving yet. It's not. It's not. So, I have like a weird success dysmorphia on what I see it as versus where it is in the moment. So, even if we gained two new supporters, it's like the losing the two pounds, but you look in the mirror and you still go like this. Mm-hmm.

[01:10:00] Like, fuck, but you don't realize it's a little bit thinner than it was two pounds ago or wherever it is. So, the patience that I have with this, sometimes I'm like, am I being overly patient or am I ignoring that I'm outgrowing this or am I being impatient? Right. So, that's why I don't pull the trigger too fast because I never want to look back like, damn, bro. So, you know what I know?

[01:10:27] Every time I think about stopping, what stops me is a new idea. Yeah. That means I'm not done yet. Yeah. Because if I can sit there and we chopping it up and then I pull out my phone and I write down an episode I did, that means I'm not done yet because I got something left to say. Yeah. You got chatty patty. And then we talk, are you okay with, right? Yeah. Yeah.

[01:10:52] I'm also starting to lean with the, yo, I'm okay if this, my version of success doesn't turn out to be what success is to this. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Because if this was only destined to touch 200 people but 200 people took something from it but I want 2 million, I can't dismiss what 200 did. You know what I'm saying? Because somewhere in the world somebody wants my 200. That's it. Right?

[01:11:22] So that's where, like, I become okay with what we are but still want more. Mm-hmm. You know? So I'm not going to settle for where we at but I'm still okay with, like, still doing the work. Yeah. It gets frustrating because he's like, yo, how do you figure this out? Like, I treat everything, I kind of treat this like a video game, especially, like, growing up when we had Tendo 64. You had all the original games that would just keep us up all night.

[01:11:51] It wasn't because we were so much enjoying the game. We were just mentally challenged on how do we get to this next level. Yeah, that next boss. Yeah. Sonic the Hedgehog for me. Yeah. It was like, yo, how the fuck do I get past? Dr. Robotnik. Dr. Robotnik. So life sometimes could be Dr. Robotnik for me. Mm-hmm. Like, I remember Ready to Rumble when they had, like, the gold Michael Jackson. And you could not beat that nigga to save your life. Afro Thunder couldn't do nothing. Yeah, yo!

[01:12:21] Or Streets Volume 2 when he's like, you know. Yeah, Streets. Yeah, so it was kind of like that. Elgin Baylor. That's kind of how. Game breakers. That's how. You ain't hit your game breaker yet. It's loading. Yeah. It's loading. Yeah, so that's how. And then within that thought, I just thought another thing. You also don't want to. So, okay. Let me put this in another way. You can either go with the podcast. You can go the Rick Owens route.

[01:12:52] Or you could go the Supreme route. Right? Can you break down that analogy? Right? Y'all following me? Yeah. Both successful. Rick, I feel from his inception to now, there's a common thread. Right? You could tell Rick did not care about who was going to buy his product before making his products. He just made it because he wanted.

[01:13:21] He made his products because he was into what he was creating. He was. Whether it was a slow process, a quick process. He made a bunch of samples. One sample. He said, I'm going to make a uniform. I'm going to wear it. And I'm going to just see what happens. Now, you got. You think Rick. You think people probably in Rick's comment like, oh, can y'all make plus size? Can y'all make big and tall? Can y'all make. No. You're going to make that? No. No. He will never make that. What you're going to say?

[01:13:50] Oh, Rick is not being inclusive? No. This is what got him to where he's at. This is his identity. You know what to expect. Or you're going to Supreme. No Rick for you. Supreme. One week you might get this. One week you might. I know in the office there's some shit they don't like. But they got it. They going to put it out? Will it sell out? Absolutely. Probably. It's gone. Right? It's gone. But that shit was dirt. When they created it, they said, eh. But I'm going to drop it.

[01:14:20] Will they wear it? Probably never. Right? One out of the 20. I don't say that. One out of the 20 pieces. They rocking it. Yeah, yeah. They got a Supreme. I don't say that shit. It's an OG one. Very true. So you want to go. So A, he could do some atypical, uncharacteristic shit with the pod. That get us to pop. That might get you to pop. Take us to the next level. I don't know. Get us to sell our souls.

[01:14:46] Or we could keep hitting them with what's a good guy and what that is and what the identity is. I have one more question for you. We also paid it full. I need some Chinese fools. You still going to love me, man? Yes! You ever had that moment? I love the game. Love the game. You love the hustle, bro. You love the hustle. Feeling like bird of magic. Yeah. I know you had that feeling a few times. We got walked out on them runways. Yeah. Everybody's there. The lights is there. Yeah.

[01:15:16] And then you walked away. Legendary. Did you say to yourself, are they still going to love me now that I'm not associated with this? Nah. That's fine. Not really. You really do know who you are. I know who I am. Because I don't think Mitch. Was it Mitch? No. It was Ace. It was Ace. Yeah. That didn't know who he would be if he walked away. You know what I'm saying? He didn't have an identity outside of what the streets. I've always had my own identity. Yeah. Yeah. What the streets known him for.

[01:15:45] Oh, like, yeah, Ace will still have, like, it was Mitch, right? Yeah. Money making Mitch. Yeah. I'm bugging him. Oh, oh. It was Mitch. Mitch had no identity to the lifestyle, the drug dealer. It's why most people, most drug dealers be like, yo, when I get X amount, I'm out. And then they get that X amount. Then they want more. Yeah. Or they never, within getting that X amount, they never thought about what was next because

[01:16:14] you need deep in the hustle. Yeah. They looking, they living day by day and not forecasting. Right. And what you said earlier about this is how you plan your day, which turns into your weeks, which turns into your month, which turns into your year. When you not forecasting the foreseeable future, you just get stuck here, comfortable there, whether you're successful or not. Yeah. So for me, that's how I know who I am. Whether I'm still partying or not, I know I'm okay. You know what I'm saying?

[01:16:43] Or if I keep partying, I know I'm okay. I'm happy with who I am. My development did happen behind the scenes and, you know, multiple therapists. Yeah. Male, female, married, unmarried, widowed. Yeah. Multiple relationships. That growth is going to show up. Yeah. Through your natural energy, through how you respond, through people like Don and Kojo.

[01:17:09] Yo, they would probably say, oh man, if a situation happens, they'll probably look at it and like, wow, the old LA would have responded like this. Yeah. Don has told me that before too. Maybe a year ago, he was like, I think one time we, something went wrong with the, we had like a technical issue. Don was like, yo bro, the old you would have been mad the whole day. He was like, I'm kind of shocked that you, yo bro, it's done.

[01:17:38] Ain't nothing we can't, I know we can't recover this. We got, it is what it is, bro. You know what I'm saying? Don't make no sense to trip over it. Let's just. Y'all niggas ready to record again? Yo, Joe was there. Like, yo, let's just run it back. Like, but that would have took, that would have, yo, I'm going home. Right. I'm not doing it. They would have cried. Yeah. They would have cried to court. So, so yeah, sometimes, sometimes like with the losing weight factor, your growth is going

[01:18:05] to come or people will notice your growth or change, realize, yo, your personality has changed. Yeah. For the better or for the worse sometimes. Yeah. But you got to have the people around you to call you out on it too. Absolutely. Are you big on being reaffirmed? Even though you know who you are? Yeah. I like, I like words of affirmation. Yeah, me too. I do. I got a newfound love for it. Yeah. Even though I know who I am, I still like hearing it. I still like, even when you was, when Joe and you, when y'all was both describing me,

[01:18:34] I love that. I don't know if you play it back. I probably was cheesing the whole time. Looking like a fool. Yeah.

[01:19:10] Flowers. Flowers. It's hard to hear flowers. It's hard to get your flowers when you, when you really, when you really want more and what they're giving you kind of doesn't, uh, but it's a selfish thing. Like, yeah, I appreciate that. I need to hear that. But when you, when you trying to grow a garden and you just see that one little thing, all you see is the rest of the dirt. Yeah. But you got to appreciate this is the first flower that grew.

[01:19:38] So I'm trying to be more appreciative. That's what I'm working on in this new stage of my life. Just trying to be more appreciative of, and not being so tunnel vision that I don't see how far I become. Yeah. How far I came in life. Yeah. That's fair. That's fair. Um, how does that look like as a Dean when you, when you, when the first day of school come and then the end of the school year, you look at these kids like, I remember what you had. I'm writing my speech right now.

[01:20:07] And the fact that I'm writing a speech, do y'all remember when y'all was in those chairs and your Dean or superintendent was like Marty McMarco. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. We all live that same life. I probably just recycled that, but it still felt like something like, so that's what I feel like going up there now. Cause I'm like, wow, this is like, this is fire. Like I'm like, I really inspired these minds, help them with their decisions, how to emotionally regulate.

[01:20:36] Um, and they moving on to sixth grade. Right. So, and welcoming a new class. Mm. So, and with me helping them grow, you got to always remember the people in your life that helped you grow. So for refereeing, for example, cause I feel like that was a growth, right? Yeah. I picked up, um, um, shout out to my girl. Right. In her crib, she had a, uh, a referee book on our table. I'm like, well, you got a referee. Why? Yeah. Anyway.

[01:21:05] Um, uh, I'm like, you know what? Let me, I opened it. I'm like, Hmm. I'm into basketball. I can't coach anymore. My school, like whatever. Yeah. Um, I was like, let me pick up, let me just, let me just, let me just open up a new part of my brain. Right. And I picked it up and from since then it kind of became like a challenge. So I was like, Oh, you're going to take some classes too. Like we can take it together. I'll do the whole book, the whole test and tell you the answers. Right.

[01:21:34] Um, cause a, it's extra solid bread B you're helping grow players. Yeah. See, you kind of still being a part of the game just on another side of the whistle. So it's all, that's a whole new world that I'm seeing. Um, and I, I've gained appreciation for it. So I think within your journey and navigating it, remember the people that helped you that helped you get there. And you say you want to be more appreciative. Just acknowledge them out loud. You know, she don't watch the podcast, but Oh, I got a shout out.

[01:22:04] She loud. Shout out G. Um, for having that book on your, uh, that, you know, on your nightstand or wherever it was. Um, that's why. Yeah. That's why. Yeah. Good episode, bro. Yes, sir. Good episode. Appreciate y'all for having me. I feel good to be here. If you're, if you're live on the Patreon, that means you get to see Vic a little bit longer, but if not, you know, subscribe to that Patreon. Vic is staying for the whole day of the recording.

We recorded all day, but, uh, we'll, we'll start rolling out. I promise we'll start rolling out.

[01:23:00] Uh, my ex showed me this Thursday. I'm going to work on that this week. Uh, episode three might get recorded today. If not, we'll record it next week, but we already recorded episode one and two. We also got an episode of in the real world, but. Man, that's in the tuck. That's in the tuck too. You know what I'm saying? That's recording. But if you was on that $15 tear, that front row tear, there is no waiting. Yeah, you got it. You got it. You got it already. Everybody else got to wait. So subscribe to that.
